Your Fabric Brief
Define Your Fabric Requirements
Bring a reference and the details that matter for your garment.
- Composition
- Specify the fibers and blend percentages, such as cotton, polyester or viscose. Fiber content does not define the knit or weave.
- Construction
- Define the knit or weave and the structure you want. Compare movement, opacity and how the fabric should hold its shape.
- Weight & Drape
- Share the target GSM or a reference. GSM is weight per square metre; it does not describe thickness or feel on its own.
- Color & Finish
- Identify the color reference and surface finish, including how washing, printing or embroidery should work with the fabric.
Before bulk production
Confirm the selected fabric and color against your garment sample, and agree any required testing, cost and timing before the order moves ahead.
Before You Choose
Fabric Selection Questions
Practical points to confirm before you commit to a fabric.
What if I do not know the fabric name or GSM?
Share garment photos, a swatch or a similar garment, and describe the feel, drape and weight you want. Mark any details you want to change. Photos help explain the appearance; the composition and weight need to be confirmed separately.
Is a higher GSM always better?
No. GSM describes weight per square metre, rather than overall quality. Choose it alongside composition and construction, and compare the drape, coverage and comfort in the garment sample.
Does the garment minimum apply to every fabric?
Confirm the fabric requirement separately. Color, composition, finish and sourcing route can affect the available quantity, cost and timing. Any fabric minimum or extra material arrangement should be stated in your quotation.
Can I request a custom color or finish?
Share the color standard or physical reference and the finish you need. Confirm feasibility, minimums and timing for the selected fabric, and agree the physical color or finish reference to approve before production.
What if I need organic, recycled or performance materials?
Include the required standard, property or test requirement in your brief. Confirm the supporting documentation and testing for the proposed material; a fabric name or photo alone does not establish certification or performance.
